Rhinebeck
Well, I attended the NYS Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, NY this past Saturday, my first Rhinebeck visit since probably 1996!
My how things have changed! The size of the festival was probably 3 times as big as I last remember it, with 3 times the number of patrons that I remember. What a crowd! So many vendors, so many offerings, and the cost of yarn and fiber has shot up since then quite a bit. That wasn't so surprising, as I've still been buying from my LYS and other sources online.
It was fascinating to see how much more yarn seemed to be featured than fiber, probably thanks to the latest knitting craze we're in. But there was plenty of fiber too, and some beautiful hand-dyed offerings.
That said, Ann and I were very reserved and walked away with 4 oz of wool/mohair dyed roving for her and a pound of Blue Faced Leicester roving for me, plus a book on growing herbs for colds and flu.
In building A, at 10:30 am, there was a line practically out the hall waiting to buy the socks that rock yarn that The Fold booth was selling. Amazing. Not sure what time she sold out of that yarn, but it was definitely gone when we returned before the end of the show.
It was a one day visit for us, but we got a chance to meet some folks from an online knitting list I belong to, as well as catch up with some of my old friends.
I'm now looking forward to teaching Ann to spin with her new purchase.
