I couldn’t resist this week’s challenge at iamthedivaczt.blogspot.com – another “common string” challenge where we’re all invited to work with the same string. This one is fairly simple, in that you basically make an X string across the tile, and then split each triangle, so you end up with 8 sections It turns out that this string must be a favorite of mine, as I found at least 4 examples using something quite similiar in my ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) silk sari covered journal. This string actually makes a great background behind a blank silhouetted shape, as you’ll see further below.
Here’s this week’s challenge in a tile, that I completed Monday night: using the tangles Rain, Hi-C’s and Tripoli. I have to admit to being totally smitten with Hi-C’s.
And here are a few other ZIA’s I’ve done since last fall with backgrounds set up similarly to this string..
The greyhound image was inspired by my pooch, Onyx, and brought as an example to show my class at the Greyhound rescue org, Fast Friends, back in January. The second image started out as a frame in the shape of Vermont, and sort of turned into a beer stein, quite by chance. The pelican image was inspired by a picture at a local cafe, and the 4th was done in the traditional Zentangle style.

Very pretty! I like how you separated the tangles with another tangle. Overall it has a lovely, lacy effect. And I love Hi-Cs too.
Beautifully done! And a great assortment of tangles.
I think that your idea to repeat your patterns works so well to make the tile unified ! The tile is gorgeous!
I love your tile! It’s just great; I love HiC’s, too:)
