Ok, I’ll admit it.. I had forsaken Safari for a while now, back when I was still running OS X Panther. Since getting the new machine, and Leopard, and the new shiny versions of iLife, iWork and staying with upgrades, I’m slowly being lured back. Yes, I do like my special Firefox extensions, but for general usability.. some of the new features I’ve found on Safari are winning me over. As pictures do better than words, I’ll show you a few things I really like:
Nifty pop down of history AND bookmarks when typing a url

On bringing up a new tab, I see the follow ‘gallery’ of Top Sites:

And you can change them! Check this out:

An EDITABLE gallery of visited sites, even!
This feature is still a little buggy in how you get to it, (mouseover a window and then hit TAB once or twice), but it’s cool none the less:

I’m currently testing out some screencasting software for use later this fall, when I’m working more remotely and need a quick and dirty way to show clients how to use software, a website, a blog, etc.
So this morning I ran my very first ever screencast, using an online Screencasting creator, Screencast-o-Matic.
The screencast itself is probably of interest mostly to web designer/developer types who have access to Windows and need to test for multiple versions of Internet Explorer. (For you non-geeks, it’s a chance to hear my voice and tell me whether I still have any remnants left of my Philly accent, after years in Vermont.)
I’ll also be playing with some simple videocasting software from a laptop for quickie fiber arts demos too, so if you have suggestions for doing hands-on demos using a webcam, send me a note or comment.
Notes: I ran this using XP via Parallels on my Mac.
Find the Screencast here if the image is gone.
The software demo was for Microsoft Expressions SuperPreview, and was a beta temporary download to use for a month. In perusing the website for Microsoft Expressions, it was not clear to me whether the SuperPreview would be available as a stand-alone piece, or as part of the Web suite bundle only. I found it useful for testing coding side by side on a page using IE7 and IE6.

Melissa Barton tweeted the other night about some clients that had been abandoned by their webmasters. Amazing how one simple tweet can get you inspired to write! I tweeted back how I could easily come up with a top 5 or 10 list for things business people need to know about their websites.
Next thing I knew, Melissa invited me to submit a guest post on her business consulting blog, and an hour later I handed her the post. But you’ll have to visit Melissa’s blog to see it. I’ll post it here in a week or two.
